“Composition”

 

Description:

 

            This is an intensive course where the students will receive a solid base in composing their artworks.  Students will learn about elements of design, division of space, golden section, use of a viewfinder, compositional geometrical shapes, division of planes, balance and contra balance, directing the eyes to the center of interest etc.

            Practical exercises and analysis of divers compositions will form an important part of this course.

Drawing pad, pencil (2B, 4B), eraser, ruler, notebook, pen.

 

Lesson 1 

Division of Space

Focus:

      -    Use of a viewfinder

      -    Golden section

      -    Center of interest

      -    Compositional geometrical shapes

 

Lesson 2 

Relation of Spaces

Focus:

      -    Balance and contra balance

      -    Symmetrical and asymmetrical composition

      -    Directing the eye to the center of interest

 

Lesson 3

Elements of Design

Focus:

      -    Balance and unity

      -    Line, value, size, pattern, movement, and color

 

Lesson 4

Principles of Color Design

Focus:

      -    Harmony, contrast, rhythm, repetition

      -    Gradation, balance, dominance

 

Lesson 5 

Designing the Picture

Focus:

      -    Characteristics of foreground, middle ground and background

      -    Keying values / keying planes

 

 

Lesson 6

Designing the Picture

Focus:

      -    Designing with light and shade

      -    Keying values / keying planes

      -    Aerial perspective / landscape
